Plan to gather at Cafe Brocante vintage food truck at 196 Wilderness Rd, Lovedale ahead of the drive. They open at 7am (!!), but just allow enough time to enjoy authentic French crêpes — both sweet and savoury — along with beautiful, barista-made coffee.
We'll then plan to head off on our drive at 9:15am, heading west along Wilderness Drive to Wine Country Drive where we turn RIGHT.
Not far up the road (about 2.5kms) past the back of The Vintages, turn LEFT onto McDonalds Rd and after a sharp left bend turn RIGHT onto Deaseys Road to cut across the valley to Hermitage Road where we turn LEFT.
Head down Hermitage Rd for about 3kms, then turn RIGHT onto Broke Rd. It's then about 15kms to get to Broke (along the way Broke Rd becomes Cessnock Rd). At Broke turn LEFT on to Wollombi Rd. About 5kms down Wollombi Rd will be our first stop, Bare NaturSkin, a quirky little luxury soaps and wellness store with a range of handmade olive oil, goats milk soaps and skin care products produced with locally-sourced ingredients. We'll allow about 20 minutes there before heading off to Wollombi, about 25kms away.
Arriving in Wollombi, turn LEFT toward Cessnock (opposite the Wollombi Tavern). We'll take another break for a coffee or milkshake or whatever at the Wollombi General Store. We'll allow about 20 minutes there before heading along the beautiful Wollombi Rd toward Cessnock with our next destination Kelman Vineyard for a free wine tasting!
The route to Kelman Vineyard goes along Wollombi Rd, through Millfield and Greta Main and Pelton and Bellbird and at the first set of lights (about 27kms from Wollombi) turn LEFT onto Alexander St. Follow that down to the t-intersection at Mount View Rd where we turn LEFT.
Follow Mount View Rd past the high school, straight on through the first roundabout, and at the next roundabout (after a sharp right bend) take the 3rd exit into Kelman Vineyard - a small intimate community managed winery for a free tasting of their award winning wines. We’ll allow about 45 minutes for a tasting, then head 3kms up the road to Twine Hunter Valley, a lovely spot for final photos (resturant lunch optional). Let the organisers know before the 9:15am departure if you’d like to make a booking for Twine Restaurant.
